A little bot to help people figure out if it’s time to leave their job to start a business

Figuring out when to make the jump from full time job to new business idea that’s burning a hole in your pocket is hard. For someone with an idea and a dream, it’s challenging to figure out when to go all in. Finances matter. Support matters.

So I made a bot to help people figure it out and weigh the options. The goal of this bot was not to give the go ahead, but to help the user reflect. And to help with pros and cons. That plus a dash of advice, makes for a nice little bot to help future small business owners figure out when it’s their time to shine on their own.

What I learned

I wanted to build a bot that solved a tangible problem. I accomplished that but ideally I’d love to go further with this one. In my day job I interview small business owners on the regular. There’s a common them from business owners about not knowing when to leave their job and go full time, dedicated to the business. Finances are a huge part of the decision. If I were to iterate on this, I’d add a financial component. GPT isn’t known for doing math well, but if there was a way to help customer reflect deeper on their financial situation, I’d go more in that direction.
